A Writer’s Story…

‘And the Championship winner in under 12 category is Abhinav Krishnan, Class 5 Section B’…

‘I would like to add that this is the third consecutive year that he is receiving the Championship Title.. I now call upon our honourable chief guest Mr Nitharshan to hand over the trophy & certificates to Abhinav’, announced the Assistant Principal…

There was roar of applauds, as Abhinav springs in stage to collect his trophy…

It was a bright cool day… The climate was prefect to conduct all events of sports successfully… Abhinav(Abhi), a dark lean boy shorter than most of his classmates was managing to dump all his medals, certificates and sports clothing into his school bag… All those who crossed by congratulated him.. His physical education master wished him with a special gift… The class teacher brought a bouquet for the little boy… His friends, their parents, team captain all were talking about Abhi receiving the title for three times in a series… He was the STAR OF THE DAY

With all pride, Abhi returns home happily just to see a big lock hanging at his house gate… He checked his watch and it showed 6pm.. He knew he had to wait till 8pm for his mom to return from work, as their maid was on leave that day and he had no additional classes, following sport celebrations…Unfortunately his mom returns later than usual… She greets the boy with a hug, hands over the dinner package brought from the restaurant and locks herself in her room…  Abhi knocks the door to display his victory and to tell her stories on the days happening…His mom replies from behind the door that she is busy with office work and will talk to him in the morning… Disappointed Abhi, waits for his dads call from Singapore to tell him about his happy times… He waits and waits and finally falls asleep with his head on the phone table…

The next morning when he wakes, he find his breakfast ready on the table, lunch boxes packed, uniform ironed, shoes polished and all set for him to go to school… He wanders searching for his mom… He hears from his maid that his mom had left early and will be late as there was some meeting at workplace…

These things weren’t new for Abhi, he had gone through this for five years now… With a father working abroad and mother being a successful architect, he had more than anything he could wish for at his age… But he spent all his times in alone… When he started questioning about this to his parents they put him in a boarding school from the next year, where they believed their son could overcome his loneliness by making lot of friends… Their idea was wrong;  Abhi was pushed to even more loneliness… He finally managed to come out of this with help of his diary, which he filled with emotions – happiness, pride, success, hatred, anger, etc… All were expressed in form of words…

— That is how I started writing… Today after publishing three books and here I stand in front of you my readers with so much happiness and pride but still my parents are unaware that I write…

Abhi, now at age 26 speaks addressing to a press meet on success of his third book….

His mom wipes her tears as she fortuitously happened to watch the live screening of her son’s interview on television…

With love,

Ankitha
